Murray and Jane Averill have been married for 19 years and are the parents of two great daughters, Emily (19) and Alice (15). They love doing life with each other and with the Nexus community and are excited by all that God is doing.

Murray is a keen student of leadership and follower of sport, particularly Rugby Union.His qualifications include a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Educational Studies, Master of Educational Administration, and Master of Business Administration.  In 1993 he was awarded a Faculty Medal for highest results in the Master of Educational Administration program.  He is currently completing a Master of Arts (Theological Studies).

Jane also comes from an educational background, and is a qualified teacher. She loves being a wife, mother and friend and has a great gift at connecting with and loving people. She is honoured to pastor alongside Murray at Nexus.  It is her desire to encourage, inspire and love all Nexus women.

Associate Pastor and Pastoral Care

Glen has attended Nexus Church for over 25 years and currently oversees Pastoral Care in the life of the church. He has been married to Maureen for 20 years, and they have four children – Ruth, Benjamin, Phoebe and David. Glen has also trained as a Secondary School teacher and holds a number of qualifications in Arts and Theology. He has just completed a Master of Theology with the Brisbane College of Theology.

Communications & Young Adults Pastors

Ruth and Stephen have been with us for years, and have loved building into Nexus in several key areas. They currently pastor our Momentum Young Adults movement and want to see a whole generation empowered to change their world. They love great coffee, hanging out with friends and meeting new people. Steve has a film production company, and loves bringing great stories to light. Ruth works at the church, overseeing communications, young adults and a few other portfolios and recently completed a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Management and Leadership.

Mick recently left the Army after 24 years of service as a Paratrooper to serve at Nexus as the Executive Pastor. His desire is for the men of Nexus to become beacons for leading their families, colleagues, and friends closer to Jesus. He is also privileged to lead the Welcome Team on Sundays with his wife Janet. Mick and Janet have five daughters, four hens, and two female guinea pigs. It is no wonder he loves men’s ministry...

Tim has been on staff at Nexus Church for over six years and is excited about what God is doing in the supernatural through everyday people. Tim is the Campus Pastor at Nexus Church co-ordinating the production and services and also co-ordinates the Brisbane School of Supernatural Ministry. Tim has a passion for the supernatural and the gifts of the spirit. Tim has been married to Jess for over five years and they love pizza, hanging out with friends and family, and watching a great DVD.

Dave and Jude have attended Nexus for several years and have a great passion for children and bringing them into a relationship with God. They have been married for 15 years and have three children - Zachary, Mariah and Josiah. Both Dave and Jude are Primary teachers and each hold a Bachelor of Ministries. Together, Dave and Jude coordinate the Children’s and Young Families Ministries here at Nexus Church. Their desire is to connect families and to see the next generation of Nexus raised up and loving Jesus with all their hearts.

Serving almost twenty six years in Youth Ministry, Jim and Robyn McMillan have a heart to see young people changed by the power of Christ. They come with a fresh vision to see the Youth of Nexus grow and be empowered to change their world. Jim is also a mean barista, and will make you an excellent espresso if you can catch him standing still!

Linda is passionate about God, Missions and seeing young women reach their full potential in Jesus. She has been a member of Nexus for several years and is thrilled to be on the team as the Missional Assistant, working closely with the Senior Executive team. Linda is also on the Global Outreach team. She and her husband Bryan and son Tim enjoy eating good food and walking their two huskies Jack & Diesel.

Gayle Barnes

Pastoral Care Assistant

Gayle has been at Nexus for over 25 years and loves being active in the life of Nexus. She is currently involved in Religious Education at a local school and enjoys teaching children about God's love. Gayle came on staff at Nexus in early 2006 and is currently working in church administration, and pastoral care. She loves spending time with her children and friends and blessing people with her sewing skills.

Jocelyn Habelito

Jocelyn has been a part of Nexus since shortly after moving from New Zealand in 2001. She loves being connected to the family at Nexus, especially through prayer. Jocelyn handles our Finance department, and one of her passions is to enhance good stewardship by increasing people’s understanding that all we are and have is a gift from God to be used for building the Kingdom. She loves tennis, reading, and her Connect group.

Liz Logan

After interning with Jane in 2009, Liz became our Receptionist in 2010. She is passionate about the house of God and loves to serve wherever she can - her favourite area to serve is with the worship team! Liz has a Bachelor of Music & Teaching Degree and a Diploma in Christian Ministry. She enjoys anything to do with music and travel and seeing people fulfil their God potential.

Alan Webster

Property Manager

After working as the Property Supervisor for the College from the mid-1990s, Alan and his family then spent four years in Europe, assisting Eastern European Jews in their return to Israel. With qualifications in Surveying, Financial Planning and Ministry, we were very excited to welcome Alan back to staff in 2008, where he does a fantastic job maintaining and further developing both church and College facilities. In his free time, you’ll find Alan out sailing or off on a camping adventure.

Laura Fraser

Young Adults and Communications Assistant

Laura has been involved at Nexus for years, but recently joined the staff to provide Communcations support and assist in pastoring our Reverb Young Adults. She is also currently completing a dual degree in Arts and Social Science at the University of Queensland and graduates at the end of the year. Laura loves to travel and is already planning her next adventure overseas.

Brett Shaw

Worship and Young Adults Pastor

Brett joined the Nexus team in early 2010, after a long association with the church while overseas. Brett is involved pastoring our Reverb Young Adults, focusing on our late teens through to mid-20s. He is also pastoring the Creative Team as a musician and worship leader. Brett has been involved in various ministries in several different nations and brings a breadth of perspective to Nexus.

Aaron Snoswell

Aaron is our very talented web developer, in charge of keeping the website running and adding new features. He’s been a part of Nexus for over a year now and joined the staff at the beginning of 2010. When he’s not solving website issues, Aaron can be found studying a dual degree in Engineering and Physics at UQ. He loves physics, maths, music and God – quite a combo!

Graham Headley

Technical Ministries

Graham also joined the team in early 2010, though he’s been part of the Nexus family for over 5 years now. He works in the Tech Team, doing sound for our worship team, maintaining and installing equipment , uploading sermon podcasts and just about any other tech job that comes his way. Graham is also studying a Diploma in Technical Production and is passionate about complimenting great music with great sound engineering and mixing.

Georgia Harvison

Georgia joined the Nexus team in early 2010 and has been part of the church for over five years. She works in our Media team, producing fantastic video content for our services and special events. As well as working at Nexus and volunteering as a Youth Leader, Georgia is studying at Bible College. She loves photography, film, horse riding and spending time in God’s presence.

Our Eldership

Graham and Kensie Corney

Graham has been in the church since 1975 and was elected to the board (now Eldership) in 1978. He and Kensie are both lawyers in private practice and serve the church and college in various capacities. They parent their blended family of 5 young adults.

Bruce and Merrilyn Garbutt

Bruce has been associated with Nexus Church and Northside Christian College for more than 15 years. He and Merrilyn met in Israel and were married in 2006 after both losing their first spouses. Between them they have eight children and twelve grandchildren. Bruce and Merrilyn are the Australian Directors of the international Christian Embassy Jerusalem.

Annie and Patrick Gibney

Annie and Patrick have been at Nexus for 20 years. Annie is a Director of Nursing and thinks having a good laugh is an essential ingredient to life and Patrick is a plastic fabricator and passionate All Blacks supporter. They have three children and two beautiful grand daughters.

Don and Denise Plumb

Don and Denise first came to Nexus Church in 1979, thirty years ago, with particular interest in the church’s vision for Christian schooling. They have three adult children; Danielle, Rebecca and Joshua and also have been blessed with a granddaughter. Don has served as an elder at Nexus Church since 1985. Both have been teaching for over twenty-five years, most of that time in Christian schooling.

Phil and Deb Stay

Phil and Deb Stay have been members of Nexus Church for many years, have been involved in most aspects of church life and are continuously amazed at how God changes lives. They manage their own land use and infrastructure planning consultancy, and when they aren’t working, Phil and Deb love spending time with their three adult children, two son-in-laws and two granddaughters.

Brad and Beck Strahorn

Brad & Beck have been keen Nexus attendees for 7 years. At a sprightly 31 years of age Brad is single-handedly responsible for dropping the average age of the elders by a staggering 5 years. He practises as a solicitor at a commercial law firm. Beck taught for a number of years in the junior school of the college before recently becoming a mum to their daughter Paige.
