Meet Janina Schneider our Intern in Communications and Events |
Janina Schneider joined the Nexus Team in March 2012 as a volunteer Intern in our Communications & Events Dept. She is currently doing the Certificate IV in Contemporary Leadership at the Metro Leadership College in Brisbane and her internship is a part of that. At the beginning of this year Janina became a youth leader with NexusOne Youth.
Janina came to Brisbane in March 2011 and heard about Nexus through a family from YWAM who encouraged her to attend. The next Sunday she went to Nexus in the evening, where she met Ruth Limkin at the New To Nexus Point who introduced her to at least 30 people that night. Since then she has been attending Nexus and still has the same friends that she met that evening. “Nexus is probably my favorite place in the world and I can’t say in words how happy I am that I found this place. God has surrounded me with such amazing friends & an incredibly loving host family and I’m just blessed beyond words.”
Janina is from Germany and grew up in a historical city called Nuremberg in Bavaria, Germany. Her parents Victoria and Christian have been involved with Ministry & Worship for many years and she gave her life to the Lord when she was very little. “As a child I was incredibly in love with God and that hasn’t changed at all. He is my greatest encourager, my absolute best friend, the most loving Dad and is perfectly skilled in making me happy.”
Two years ago Janina did a DTS (Discipleship Training School) with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Brisbane. Having the option, she chose music as her focus, “The seven months with YWAM were probably the most life-changing and unforgettable months in my life. I learned so many things about God’s heart, things about myself, discovered gifts in me I wasn’t even aware of them existing, got heaps of revelations & healing for my heart.”
During her time at YWAM, Janina also discovered her passion for art and drawing, “I’ve always been good at drawing, but I used to consider it boring. My grandma is a professional fine artist, but that made me try to avoid it, because I didn’t just want to do it because I was good at it, I wanted to do something because I love it, and now it is my most favorite thing to do.” and had many personal and precious times in worship in the YWAM Art Studio.
Part of Janina’s heart and vision is to help bring other people into encounters with God where they are set free from hurt, low self-esteem and fear, and experience new revelation and perspective of their identity in God; as confident, royal sons and daughters of the Most High. “People always ask me why I am so confident and have such a free spirit, and to answer that: it is not something I was born with, it’s something I learned when someone started whispering freedom into my heart, every single day, till I started believing it. Those words God spoke to me actually set me free and have made me the person I am today.

Gabe Glen – Nexus Missions Volunteer Intern |
Our own Gabe Glen returned from India at the end of February. She is just one of the amazing young people at Nexus who are making a difference in their world and living for a purpose beyond themselves. Here is her story.
“I left for Kolkata, India the day after I graduated high school to spend three months working as an intern at an organization based in the heart of the city’s largest red light district, Sonagachi. During my time I worked with international visitors and clients, managed the local store and worked a little with media and design. The organization employs former sex trade workers, women who are in the trade because of poverty and trafficking.
These women are given an alternative to the sex trade and are taught to sew. With this skill they find employment at the organization’s factory. The women make fair-trade, organic t-shirts and bags that are sold worldwide. They are given access to childcare, education, healthcare and above all else, a means to experience freedom in all areas of their life
Kolkata is like nowhere else on earth. It is vibrant and constantly in motion. It is a place of severe contradictions – the rich and the poor, the beautiful and the ugly, the loved and the unloved. Living in the red light district, I experienced and learned things daily that have altered and changed the direction my life will take. God had a very different plan for my life and this trip to India made this very clear to me.
I have a passion to see women freed from the sex trade, to see them empowered and making new lives for themselves. I have a passion to see young girls having access to education and living lives free from the fear of trafficking and abuse. I have a passion to serve those who have never known love or freedom.
I want to see young people serving and using their skills and passions to bring about change in the world. There is so much opportunity to make a difference be that at home or overseas. My time in India taught me that age does not have to be a barrier that hinders you. The young people are the new generation of world changers and it is never too early to see this change come about.”

Danny Silk @ Nexus – Kingdom Culture Conference & Parenting Seminar! |
Our Kingdom Culture Conference starts Wed 18th – Fri 20th April. We have two guest speakers Kris Vallotton & Danny Silk, both visiting from Bethel Church, Redding California.
Danny and Sheri Silk are the Family Life Pastors of Bethel Church, they bring a wealth of pastoral experience and gifted insight to the ministry. Through anointed teaching and counseling, Danny focuses on cultivating a culture of community by strengthening interpersonal relationships in the body. Danny also serves Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry as a guest lecturer and oversees the Transformation Center at Bethel Church, helping people find inner healing. Sheri leads the Loving On Purpose team. She has a passion to see others overcome their past and walk in victory. Danny and Sheri have 3 amazing children, a wonderful son in law and a beautiful granddaughter. Their passion is for families to get and stay connected!
Here is a sneak peek at some topics that Danny Silk will be sharing with us.
An Environment That Sustains Life, Hope, Honour and Destiny!
If those with power learn how to empower those around them, then surely it will come to pass that, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
But Jesus called them to Himself and said, ‘You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. Matt 20:25-26
Danny Silk describes the significant paradigm shift in church life, government, and relationships that has created and sustained the revival culture at Bethel Church in Redding, California. Through many relevant and true-life stories, the church is revealed as a place of freedom, respect, empowerment, and healthy discipline (not punishment).
The Culture of Honour – Living with powerful people.
Honour is a ‘two-way’ experience. We must understand the function of honour comes through free people making a way for each other to remain powerful in the relationship. If we violate another person’s need for value, self-control or safety, then dishonour rushes in and fear fill our motivations. Honour requires that we prioritise relationships so love can rule the situation, family dynamic or corporate environment. A revival environment creates increasing levels of joy, freedom and peace. These qualities will only remain to the degree that we can protect our relationships with one another. The practice of honour is often a lost art in our modern culture.
In the teaching Series ‘Loving Our Kids on Purpose’, Danny talks about the priority of connection.
The Priority Connection – Fear & Love are mortal enemies!
Just as light and dark cannot occupy the same space, neither ca the two forces of anxiety and love share a place in our relationships. Feeling loved brings out our best and fear brings out our worst. Whether in marriage, parenting, work or our friendships we’ve all experienced feeling connected or disconnected. Understanding the cost/benefit ratio of living connected to those we love and serve helps us to feel powerful enough to negotiate through challenging times with others. If we are going to protect our priorities in life we must master the art of connection.
Living Free – The Power of Self Control!
Danny talks about the power of self-control while demystifying the misconception that we can control others.
Remove the option of people controlling themselves and you will find yourself holding the tail of a crocodile. People were created to be free and remain in that control through-out their lives. Too often we come to believe that we are powerful when we can control others. Nothing could be farther from the truth! We are most powerful when we practice controlling the most important parts of ourselves: our love, honour, truth and respect.
The Transforming Power of Unconditional Love – insert love here!
“There are a lot of people around who can’t wait to tell you what you’ve done wrong, but there aren’t many fathers willing to take the time and effort to help you grow up…” 1 Corinth 4:15
The “Master Plan” in life is to get those around you to fall in love with you. If you are successful, then you can gain access to their heart and impart the best part of who you are to them. Insert love here!

A note from ‘Kris Vallotton’ – Kingdom Culture 2012 Conference Speaker |
Our Kingdom Culture Conference is just 3 weeks away starting on Wednesday evening 18th April at 7 pm. This is not just another conference, but is a moment in time for you be intentional in seeking God, and to experience greater vision and insight into every area of your life, to bring the culture of the Kingdom of heaven to earth, to bring freedom to those in your sphere of influence. We invite you to set aside 3 nights and 2 afternoons to join with us in the presence of God, to be inspired, equiped and empowered, and to receive new revelation from the brilliant teaching and ministry of Kris Vallotton & Danny Silk.
A note from our conference speaker Kris Vallotton……….
Hi, I am Kris Vallotton, the author of several books including two brand new books entitled ‘Heavy Rain’ and a book I co-authored with my son, Jason, entitled ‘The Supernatural Power of Forgiveness’.
I’m the cofounder and leader of a full-time ministry school called Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry. The school has more than 1600 full-time students enrolled from more than 30 nations. My life’s mission and the purpose of the school is to see every nation in the world positively impacted by the Kingdom of God. This school began 13 years ago with just 37 students. It is experiencing explosive growth.
I am also the founder and CEO of an organization called Moral Revolution. The Mission of Moral Revolution is to inspire a revolution that redefines the post-modern mindsets of the global masses resulting in a culture that favourably views virginity, the marriage covenant between a man and a woman, moral purity, and values the dignity of women, men and children. You can learn more about the revolution at www.moralrevolution.com.
I travel all over the world speaking at conferences on leadership, supernatural living, cultural transformation and sex. I have discovered that people everywhere are tired of religion, but they are hungry for true spiritual encounters. The occult has capitalized on this intense desire, which has led many people into a spiritual cesspool. I believe that Christians owe the world a real encounter with the living God. This has become my personal obsession, mission and mandate.
I have been married for 36 years to my childhood sweetheart, Kathy. We have 4 grown children and 8 grandchildren. For more information about us check out our website at www.kvministries.com and/or follow us on our KV Ministries Facebook page.
Much grace,
Kris Vallotton
Kris Vallotton, is a senior associate leader at Bethel Church in Redding, California. Kris knows his way around the spiritual battlefield, and for years he was tormented by a host of demonic assaults, though he didn’t know the problems were spiritual. Confused, and overwhelmed, he actually contemplated suicide………until the Lord delivered him.
Since that time, Kris has spent his life spreading a message of hope and freedom. He’s helped people all over the world recognize the devil’s stealth attacks and taught them to overcome. Weaving time-tested spiritual warfare tactics with biblical understanding, Kris offers Christians a bold new battle plan, showing how even those in the most devastating of personal battles can be victorious.
Here are some books written by Kris Vallotton that will be available for purchase at the Kingdom Culture Conference.

Nexus Frendz – Seniors Group |
Nexus Seniors Group (Frendz), have two official gatherings a month, one at the beginning of each month which is a social outdoor activity, and one on the fourth Wednesday of each month, a function held in the Church Auditorium commencing at 10.00am, which is a morning of fellowship, fun and food and a great way to make new friends who love God and life.
Last week they went on their monthly outdoor activity to Scarborough Park, and they had a very enjoyable day, spent with about 45 of them.
They were blessed with the company of Ian and Leanne Fooks, who shared with them some of their experiences in Indonesia and the work that they are carrying out and how they are gaining recognition from the local educational and administrative authorities.
One lady from their group, Joan Wicks, celebrated her 60th birthday and was off to Caloundra to do a tandem skydive. Her dear friend Fifi flew all the way from South Africa to surprise her for her birthday and she also joined them on their day out.
Overall, a lovely day was had by all and they always look forward to their next gathering.

Nexus Missions visit Missionaries in Thailand |
We the Church, in our Nexus Missions Dept support many different ministries, both locally, nationally & overseas. Last week Cindy our Nexus Missions Director and Ellie Schamp visited Rudy and Lara Rudresh, who are missionaries that we support in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The reason for their trip, was to encourage them and find out better ways that we can continue to support the great work that they are doing.
Rudy and Lara with their children Esther and Zinah (above left) are part of a community development team working in Hang Dong. As they minister to the poor, to youths and children, and liaise with the local government, they are seeing hope and life come into individual lives and families.
Their community outreach includes Kids Clubs, School Ministry, food parcels and home help to people living with AIDS, ministry to the tribal people in the mountains and a SHINE program for women. A number of these projects are held at the River Centre. They are now working on providing a vocational training centre for young people wanting to learn trades and other skills. This will be held at the River Centre which they are currently renovating, turning a former brothel into a place for families. Rudy and Lara work under the leadership of Erik and Marianna Klar (above right).
One highlight of their trip was visiting an old lady who had been crippled and unable to walk for the last 20 years. Unable to afford a wheelchair, she would slide herself around on plastic bags. The Thai Christian ministry team there have been helping this lady in practical ways in their regular visits as well as praying for her healing. She is now walking and attributes her healing to God. Here she is holding up her arms and declaring, ‘Victory!’
Cindy and Ellie also visited a Burmese pastor who lives in northern Thailand and ministers to the tribal mountain people. He and his wife have adopted six orphan boys who were at high risk of being exploited. Abandoned and neglected, these young boys today are healthy and happy. They were able to give this family a gift from Nexus which was very much appreciated.

Volunteering at Nexus |
At Nexus we absolutely love our faithful community of volunteers and could not run our Sunday services, special events and various ministries without them. Volunteers are a vital part of the body of Christ and Jesus was the greatest servant of all “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 (NIV). Jesus said “If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honour him”. John 12:26
There are many areas to be involved and to serve within our great Church and we want to see you in a team that’s perfect for you!
- Sunday Services – car park team, connect desk, welcoming, ushering, hospitality, connect lounge, Kids Church, supervised crèche, youth emerge, sound/tech desk, media/video team, coffee cart, prayer ministry, just to name a few.
- Ministry Departments – Children’s, Youth, Young Adults, Women’s, Men’s, Seniors (Frendz), Nexus Missions, Creative Team, Communications, Conferences, Religious Education, Church administration.
- Nexus Care – greatly values the support of volunteers to carry out our many community based programs. http://www.nexuscare.com.au/get-involved-2/
Nicola McLachlan has recently joined the Nexus staff as our Volunteer Coordinator. Nicola and her husband Rob moved to Australia a year ago from the UK, where they left behind a large family (including fifteen nieces and nephews), and a great Church! “Our Church in the UK was St Luke’s, Maidstone, we were youth leaders there for a number of years, running a youth group called Nexus!”
As Volunteer Coordinator at Nexus Church, it is Nicola’s job to ensure that the administrative pathways to people serving in our Church are straight forward. For those unsure of where to serve, Nicola will be available to chat and guide people, recognising passions and gifts so they can bless others with what they have been blessed with, which is AWESOME!!!
Nicola also volunteers herself at Nexus Care two days a week and finds so much joy and fulfilment in doing that.
Nicola’s vision and dream, is to see lifelong friendships developed as a direct result of volunteering as well as other divine appointments that only come about by stepping out and serving.
If you would like to serve at Nexus as a volunteer, please email info@nexuschurch.com.au and Nicola will be in touch with you.
Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honouring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Romans 12:10-11 (NLT)
